The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is De Montfort`s largest faculty and has approximately 500 full-time and part-time employees and approximately 8,000 students. It consists of four interconnected schools: Leicester School of Allied Health Sciences, the School of Applied Social Sciences, the Leicester School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Leicester School of Pharmacy. Leicester Business School was ranked as one of the top 10 business schools in the UK by the Sunday Times,[30] while the National Student Survey 2007 ranked it seventh out of 110 institutions for student satisfaction. In 1930, the college was recognized for the University of London`s External Course in Pharmacy and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain`s Diploma in Pharmaceutical Chemist.
In 1934, the University of London recognized the college as suitable for preparing students for the external degree in engineering, and so the courses offered developed rapidly. The prospectus for 1936-37 contained details of various technical schools, including schools of architecture, construction and crafts and engineering. [3] The fourth phase of the Hawthorn Building expansion was completed in 1938/39. The first dwelling was obtained in 1946, when three houses were purchased by the university. [4] The 19/20 officer team of the Union des étudiants de Montfort began a campaign to change the name of the university, as it no longer wanted to be named after Simon De Montfort because of its anti-Semitic actions. [clarification needed] This campaign was rejected by the 20/21 officer team without a public explanation to the Jewish students. Within its Department of Humanities, the faculty currently holds five National Teacher Fellows; the most recent is Deborah Cartmell, an English reader, who was named a Fellow in recognition of her outstanding support of teaching and learning. Cartmell developed the University`s groundbreaking MA in Adaptation Studies and is a founding member of the British Shakespeare Association and the Association of Adaptation Studies.

The LLB Law is the traditional route to the legal profession and gives you the freedom to explore the areas of law that interest you most with a variety of optional modules. The Leicester campus is close to Leicester Castle and is located in a former religious quarter of the castle built by the Earls and Dukes of Lancaster, known as Newarke. It is adjacent to the 15th century Gateway Magazine or Newarke Gateway[13] and the campus contains Grade II listed buildings, including Trinity House, which was rebuilt in 1901 and contains part of the original 14th century Annunciation Hospital. [14] The Hawthorn Building contains the ruins of the Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady of Newarke from 1353, where, according to early sources,[15] the body of King Richard III was laid in state before his burial at Greyfriars. The ruins are the centerpiece of the De Montfort University Heritage Centre, which opened in March 2015.
In addition to the ruins, the center also celebrates the history of the university and the works of contemporary students.
