Given the wide range of activities carried out within TFR and between TFR and its external stakeholders, there is invariably a wide range of agreements and other activities that require legal input. On 31 May 1961, the Union became the Republic of South Africa. In 1981, the government decided that SAR&H should restructure along business lines from a state-owned enterprise to privatization. Later, with the onset of commercial aviation, South African Airways also became part of this vast land, sea and air transportation system.
