Members of the public can listen to or make their own copies of oral arguments using their own tape recorders, blank tapes and connecting cords in the film, sound and video department. Copies of recordings may also be purchased from the Archives.4 To listen to or acquire a copy of a recording, the Archives asks those who request it to indicate the title of the case, the number of the Supreme Court case and the date of the hearing. While no formal appointment is required to listen to the recordings, the archives recommend that those interested in obtaining copies ensure that the archives have a “reference copy” of the particular argument they are looking for before visiting the film, audio and video department.
