Legal Definition Computer Hardware

(1) Photocopier – A commercially available imaging product whose sole function is to produce duplicate paper from graphic paper originals. The device can be powered from a power outlet or a data or network connection. This definition is intended to cover products marketed as photocopiers or scalable digital copiers (UDCs). Software developers have legitimate concerns about software piracy. Counterfeiting is an international problem that leads to the sale of millions of dollars of pirated copies. The Software Publisher`s Association (SPA) and the Business Software Alliance (BSA) are large organizations that fight software piracy. The SPA is the leading international trade association for the PC software industry. SPA and BSA have raised millions of dollars worldwide from companies that have used pirated software. Most companies that use pirated software are reported by former employees. Moore`s Law has had a direct impact on advances in computing power. Concretely, this means that transistors in integrated circuits have become faster. Transistors conduct electricity containing carbon and silicon molecules that can accelerate the movement of current in the circuit. The faster the integrated circuit conducts electricity, the faster the computer runs.

PC Product means a computer, computer monitor, desktop computer, integrated desktop computer, or laptop computer. (1) A system in which the computer monitor and computer are physically combined into a single unit; or software tells a computer what to do. (The physical components of the computer are called hardware.) Computer software is the general term for a variety of techniques and routines that use the computing power of a computer to, for example, create a general operating system that coordinates the basic operation of the computer, or certain applications that generate a database, a financial table, a written document or a game. Computer programmers use different types of programming languages to create the complex instruction sets that make computing possible. Virtually every facet of a high-tech society benefits from Moore`s Law in action. Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers would not work without tiny processors; nor are video games, spreadsheets, accurate weather forecasts and global positioning systems (GPS). (5) All-in-one device (MFP) means a commercially available imaging product that is a physically integrated device or combination of functionally integrated components that performs two or more of the basic functions of copying, printing, scanning or faxing. The copy functionality described in this definition differs from the convenient single-sheet copy offered by fax machines. The device can be powered from a power outlet or a data or network connection.

This definition applies to products marketed as multifunction or multifunction devices. Experts agree that computers are expected to reach the physical limits of Moore`s Law in the 2020s. The high temperatures of the transistors would eventually make it impossible to create smaller circuits. This is because cooling transistors requires more energy than the amount of energy already circulating in transistors. In a 2007 interview, Moore himself admitted that ” The fact that materials are made of atoms is the fundamental limitation and it is not that far away. We`re reaching pretty basic limits, so one day we`ll have to stop making things smaller. Software is intellectual property under the law and is therefore entitled to protection from people who attempt to use it illegally. Software may be protected through the use of trade secrets, copyrights, patents and trademarks. (2) Digital Duplicator – Commercially available imaging product sold in the market as a fully automatic duplication system through the stencil duplication process with digital reproduction functionality.
