Kansas Legal Services is a statewide nonprofit organization that helps low-income Kansans meet their basic needs by providing basic legal services, mediation, and employment training. Free or low-cost services are available to Kansas residents who are involved in civil cases and meet eligibility criteria for income, case type, and other criteria such as age or district of residence. The hotline serves all Kansas residents 60 years of age or older, regardless of income. The hotline provides seniors with access to a lawyer who advises them on civil legal matters and refers them to other resources if needed. This list is not exhaustive. But they look a lot like you. They have families, hopes and dreams. They are your neighbors. They live in the communities they call home. The Kansas Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service has trained client representatives who connect appellants with lawyers in private practice who have knowledge and skills in a particular area of law. Each lawyer sets his or her own fees and expenses, but the appellant decides whether or not to hire the lawyer.
