The coast may carry out protective closures (seasonal, temporary or permanent) of areas to avoid impacts on protected species or the habitats of protected species. All closures are made before the opening of the waterfowl hunting season, usually no later than November 15 of each year. You must have a Florida waterfowl license to participate in duck hunting in Florida. This approval is included in other licenses, including hunting/fishing license for residents with disabilities, sports license, sportsman`s license 64 years and older, gold sports license, military gold sports license, life sports license, and lifetime hunting license. You must have at least one to legally participate in duck hunting in Florida. When approaching coastal areas, precautions should be taken to avoid impacts on sensitive seagrass beds (underwater vegetation). Recommended precautions for vessels equipped with engines approaching coastal areas include stopping and tilting the engines upwards to get out of the water, or removing them from the stern and guns. The use of electric motors (trolling), paddling and polishing are recommended in these areas. In the Red Fish and Spanish Cove areas of the Perdido Key hunting area, the use of internal combustion engines is prohibited.
Licensed hunters are allowed to use electric motors (trolls), sails or paddles in these seagrass meadows in hunting grounds. Waterfowl hunting is only allowed up to the average flood line. Areas closed to hunting are delineated on the GUIS waterfowl hunting map (see above) and include a 150-metre buffer zone without a hunting buffer to the west and east of group F`s picnic area at Opal Beach, Santa Rosa. Hunting grounds are open to hunters and non-hunters during the waterfowl hunting season. Duck blinds – It is illegal to hunt from or within 30 meters of a permanent duck blind on Lake Miccosukee and Lakes Iamonia, Jackson and Carr. The use of temporary duck blinds, including those made with vegetation removed at the end of each hunt, is allowed. To succeed in your Duck Hunt in Florida, you need to have certain skills, such as spotting, lure placement, calling, duck identification, and wing shooting. The more you participate in the duck season in Florida, the better you will get and the more the experience will bring you better results.
Dedication is the key to becoming a true master duck hunter. More experienced duck hunters also tend to bring trained dogs on their duck hunting trips to Florida to get the prey. Anyone may be expelled from the area for disorderly conduct, intoxication, non-compliance with federal, state, or coastal hunting regulations, or any other conduct that endangers the public good. Failure to comply with these conditions and policies may result in fines and/or arrests. Migratory birds transported in a vehicle as personal luggage of the keeper shall not be considered to be stored or temporarily stored. Keeping someone else`s birds: No person may receive or hold another person`s migratory birds unless the birds are properly identified. Transport of birds of others: No person may transport another person`s migratory birds unless the birds are properly identified. Unjustified waste of migratory wild birds: no person may kill or paralyze a migratory bird without making reasonable efforts to recover the bird and keep it in its actual custody at or between the place where it was caught and (a) an important automobile or land transport; or (b) a personal residence or a place of temporary or temporary accommodation; or (c) a migratory bird conservation facility; or (d) a post office; or (e) a joint sponsoring organization. Waterfowl hunting at the Gulf Islands National Seashore (GUIS) complies with all state and federal migratory bird regulations.
